Re: Another Statistical Measure

The issue is not technical, it's psychological. No amount of "proof" will convince someone who believes the RNG is flawed. Given the nature of randomness, you method is guarenteed to produce some highly skewed results which will be locked upon as "proof" the RNG is biased even th...

Re: Another Statistical Measure

Sounds to me like an awful lot of work to test the RNG. Most likely the desire is to disprove the claims it is. Such an effort seems fruitless, and may even backfire. I'm not opposed to some UMC trying, but it should not go into mainline.

Re: Learning Problem Solving using Algorithms and Data Structures

The purpose of the course is to learn how to approach problems, using established methods and processes. First, you need to learn what are some of the more common tools like arrays, linked-lists, trees, etc. (the Data Structures part) and what are common ways to handle common problems like sorting a...

Re: A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore

I have a problem with pushing 1.16 out another year. Having a __goal__ of 1.18 sounds good. But it should not push 1.18 into 2022. I'd rather move the goal to 1.20 and keep improving the engine. I would suggest, in the interrum, that we might consider promoting one or two UMC to mainline if there ar...

Be easier to read the threads here than go into it. Ideas, Coder's Corner and Developer's Discussions have most of it but you'll see some in the two Art forums, the Writer's forum, Faction & Era Development, Multiplayer Development, and Scenario and Campaign Development.

Re: Are Programers inherently better game designers?

Wow. It's been over fouty years since I've seen anyone mention LPC, much less speak of it in a way which makes me believe they did anything more than read a few Wikipedia articles. Even way back then those of us who kept the engines going generally recognized we were generally better at that then at...

Re: Lord of the Rings Units

There is a UMC along these lines. You might want to co-ordinate with them. (I don't remember the name they're using and could not find the thread.) They went through this issue and scrubbed their work to avoid problems. I don't know but I'd be surprised if they wouldn't like a little help. You'll wa...

Re: A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore

I'm generally in agreement, except I would like to see the work proceed as a branch so we can push out a new stable when we need to instead of getting caught unable to do so because the schedule for the campaigns was far too agressive. A single person resonsible for overall themes sounds like a very...

Re: An idea of generic tutorial campaign

You don't need to go straight to the main confrontaion. You can spend some time developing the main characters. Here's a couple ideas off the top of my head: --- You've hired on as a guard for a merchant's caravan heading to Weldyn. (Your qualifications are simply that you have a sword and a small b...

Re: Removing mainline campaign(s)

One question: when it gets to be early 2021 and you're still not done with your changes you think should go out near the end of Q3 of 2020 what is your plan? Do we do like we did for 1.13/1.14 and keep pushing out non-breaking 1.14 point releases and all the new features once again just languish for...

Re: Removing mainline campaign(s)

I would challenge the assumption that 'few' players are interested in SP, BTW. I would accept that most of the players we see are more interested in MP, but that's because they have to show themselves. All we know about SP is they downloaded a copy of the game ... and we might not even see that if i...

Wasn't there something about a threading option or environment variable or something like that for a similar issue some time over the past few months?

Re: Removing mainline campaign(s)

Not too long ago we had a release years in the making. That wasn't too well received by the users. We probably want to avoid that. What might be wiser is to split the repo so the mainline campaigns, SP and MP stand-alone scenarios and maps are separate from the code. We could then continue developin...
