Getting unit information during single scenario setup

Post by bruno »

As a new player I find myself wanting to know what units are in a
faction while chosing a faction and unit descriptions while selecting
a leader.
It would be nice if there was a way to get the description
for the selected leader type like you can on other other screens
while having a unit or unit type selected.
It would also be nice to be able to get information about the selected
faction somehow. In particular to get a list of units and if possible
to allow getting a description for each unit in the faction.

However, that doesn't help you for default, classic, age of heroes, great war, a custom era, etc. as far as knowing what units are in the faction.
Hope springs eternal.

Getting the information from a web site isn't that convenient while
playing the game. I could keep a printed copy near the computers,
but it seems like the information should be available in game, since
you can get at least some of this information from the help screens
when in different parts of the game.
My guess is that once I have been playing for a while, I will just know
what all of the units in a faction are and what there stats are. But for
now it would be convenient to have the information handy at the point
in the game where I can use it.
I actually think the in game help system is pretty good. I haven't seen
many other games that have that, Some of the help is incomplete or
out of date (I have submitted a coule of bug reports for those cases),
but overall it is very helpful.

The unit data in the help system is just created from the unit data game information, so is allways updated.
IIRC there are technical some issues getting the help to show before the game scenario start (either single player or multiplayer), but I can be wrong...go to savanah and submit a feature request...

Era help:
Showing era description and each of the sides with leader and such, example:
Gnomes' era
Long ago gnomes where rulers over the world
Avalible sides:

Gnome Supremacy:
The gnomes who rule the world band together
Leader: Gnome King, Gnome Overlord, Gnome Destroyer
Units: Gnome Warrior, Gnome Archer, Gnome Archer

Puny humans:
The early human cultures
Leader: Peasant
Units: Peasant

The help information I submitted
bugs for wasn't regarding unit data.
The income and upkeep help doesn't
mention that you get 2 gold per day
in addition to income from villages.
The movement help doesn't talk about
units being able to take part of
their move and then have other units
move and then go back to them. It
also doesn't say that attacking
ends your move or that entering a
village you don't already control
uses up the remainder of your
movement points.
