Recently I started to create several icons of goods for my trading scenario.
Maybe someone has a use for them, I'd also appreciate a feedback.

Edit: these icons are used in Strange Legacy.

My impressions were as follows:
1) At first I wasn't sure what that is supposed to be (red fish?). After looking at it for a bit (and after reading the text) it started looking like meat
2) and 3) at first I wasn't sure what they are. The grain reminded me of scratches initially. The fish... well, let's just say that shape-wise the meat seems more like fish than the actual fish icon
4) Cow-head (or the head of a similar animal), which is fine for a cattle icon
5) At first I thought it was some sort of pumpkin. And even after looking at it for a few minutes it still doesn't seem like bread to me
6) and 7) seem fine to me
8) At first I thought it was some sort of cloak or something

Grain, cattle, elven wine and ice wine are recognisable and don't need big/immediate changes.
Meet, fish and bread are unrecognisable and need to be changed ASAP, pickpocketing (...? How is that a good?) looks kinda recognisable, but should be changed/replaced anyway. Biggest issues are shape (fish and bread are not exactly shaped like fishes and bread should), texture (that's why bread looks like pumpkin, and pouch looks just weird), and shading (wheat, meat, bread and especially pouch - that is why it looks like cloak).
Also, I thought wine is usually dark red, sometimes rose, but I never seen it purple.
Don't let that discourage you, though, that's not a bad start.

These are pretty good. the grain and cattle are immideatly recognisable, and the fish is actually great too. The meat looks a little funky, the round side would be an ellipse at that angle. I suppose you could be going for an abstracted look, but that would need to be consistent through out. The fish, for example, are very highly rendered realisticly. I would suggesct finding some royalty free stock photos, creating a new tranparent layer in whatever program your using, and use the eye dropper tool for color.
The grain is good also, adding some shadows between the individual grains would make it a little more clear, I think.

Thanks for your honest feedback. I will work on these icons, especially the (pumpkin) bread and post them later.

These are my first tries for campaign pictures, used for the death elven fraction of Five Fates. I used original game pictures and changed them in photoshop. The machinedwarf is just a tryout, I will improve them later.

Oh... That's where you're avatar is from. Perlmonks.org no?

Anyway concerning the art. The second group of attachments certainly is the best. I couldn't tell right away that they were franks. Anyway, this is a great thing to do when your new to Wesnoth art I think. It's what I first did when i started out, I just re shaded units, and portraits until I felt brave enough to make may own sprites. And even then I had to learn about pillow-shading and all that. Keep it up. Not much to say other then STUDY and work hard. :eng:

Good job on your firsts and keep on comming back with improvements and new stuff.

Thanks for the feedback. My avatar is selfmade, its a photo showing me (!) - it shouldn't be somewhere else!
I'll check that.

The dwarf seems to have a broken nose, you know, the part under the cloak seems to face westwards instead of continuing the nose line.

The red elves are really too vague.

Images to "assassinate" are stained. They should be cleaned.
For all the images of attacks, we should see them in game to see what happens.

weaponstack is flat but maybe it works on a map?

chainmail is not very successful. I do not know where it is explaining how to make a chainmail as in the portrait.

The "shovel" is like a palette. I do not know if that's what you want or not.

Stormlance: I suggest you reduce the lightning, put least but that winds around the weapon.

Weeds have a color that does not seem natural. Herbs colour is good. You could use the same color gam for weeds.

Both the last line images, small, what is it?

The dwarven which should represent a "dwarven girl" in a side mission within five fates. So I changed the picture by reducing the muscles, switching the hair to red and reducing the wrinkles and hard lines to let the face look more "friendly"/"feminine". Even if I don't have the feeling that the nose is broken, the nose should show under the mask - I will change that.

The red elven sprites work, but they look somehow weird on green woods. Maybe I can solve that by adding contrast.

Assassinate will be overworked and the lines should be thiner.

Weaponstack and Old Chainmail were test, I left them within the archive. The Old Chainmail is just a Studded Leather in greyscales, which is pretty much senseless as you can turn any picture to greyscales by using the ~GS( ).

The last line however are 20*20 pixel menuitems. You can use them for giving helpmenu items a unique look.
The rightclick spells within the scenario use this logos. Beside assassinate they are all taken or cutted out from original pictures.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Well, long time no post. I haven't been lazy and overworked some things. I created a ressource pack of icons that I used in all my campaigns.
You can use these icons in your own campaign if you like. Alltogehter it took me several hours to create these icons - so save yourself some time.
