Revised crossbowman. Unless any major omission is spotted, he can be committed.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Revised flaming bolt for the slurbow. Should this one fail to please, I'll completely remove the flame but I'd really rather not touch him any more.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
IMHO the flames look spot-on. Great work.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Something you probably just forgot: the smoke clips quite noticeably on the right edge. Only relevant for the transparent version though.LordBob wrote:Revised flaming bolt for the slurbow. Should this one fail to please, I'll completely remove the flame but I'd really rather not touch him any more.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Slurbow with rectified smoke clipping. All three portraits can now be committed.
Additionnally, final lines for the orc leader and a draft for a bare-headed alternate.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Just wanted to say, that's brilliant. It's really unexpected and counter to the stereotypical view of these guys, that they're a bunch of mindless brutes out for blood. It would be great to have a reverse angle view of the fallen orc, still alive. It would inspire some interesting dialog.LordBob wrote:I'm taking note of the general dislike for the bent sovereign : the pose that inspired him is a soldier bending over a fallen man, but I reckon I'm not happy with the legs either. However, I'll rather move his legs than go for an entirely different pose. More on that later.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
I like the new leader! Somehow I miss the pillaged loyalist elements but his new outfit feels very orcish
If you are going for symmetry the rear skull could stand to be positioned a bit lower (to what creature did it originally belong to?)

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Oh, but do not despair. The pillaged loyalist portrait is all but abandonned ! He merely took a detour while I was working on his L1 pal, but I'm definitely planning him as L2-3 portrait (you can find a work-in-progress at the bottom of the previous page).
Note taken for the rear skull. I thought it would belong to some other less fortunate orc, as matters of leadership in their troublesome culture most likely involve sharp arguments.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Linework in progress for the sovereign. Once this one's done, only the shadig will remain before the orc gallery is complete.

I like the amount of detail you put into your work.
I have to say that looks like a very unnatural and uncomfortable way he's leaning onto the pole.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
It would be if he was actually leaning on it. However, as has been discussed earlier, the idea is rather that he's resting the standard on his shoulder while bending forward.
Anyway, finished sovereign linework. I might do a helmless version as I'm planning for the leader, but it's not a given.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Leader and sovereign flats.
Bonus item : lines for the alternate helmless leader
Something about the sovereign's sword arm bothers me, but I can't define it. Am I the only one getting that feeling ? Maybe it's only a trick of an unsual point of view, but I'd rather be sure.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Sovereign's sword arm looks really short - but you should be able to fix it with shading, as it's foreshortened.
