Battle for Wesnoth: Heir to the Throne Novel Release
Hello Everyone,
I've enjoyed playing Battle for Wesnoth over a number of years and most notably enjoyed playing the
I've been writing fantasy for decades and for some ungodly reason was compelled to write this story, knowing full-well I would have to give it away for free. There is a Writer's Note at the end of the book that goes in length as to why I decided to write it. I would love to see a button added to the game launcher which allows gamers to download free novelized versions of campaigns. I hope by putting the game into a novel and releasing it into the wild will attract further attention and promote support for the game and this platform. The novel is fully open-source so can be used as merch by anyone, which includes the Wesnoth Project.
I wrote the book with the hope that others would take the challenge in writing their own open-source novels. I wish to inspire writers to join in and create collaboration projects for additional short stories and novels.
So please enjoy the first ever
Sincerely,
James Richey
I've enjoyed playing Battle for Wesnoth over a number of years and most notably enjoyed playing the
campaign, so much so, that I wrote an actual open-source novel based on the campaign. The source code (manuscript) is posted for free as a download on my website at http://jamesrichey.com/Wesnoth.html. I invite everyone to read it and welcome any reviews of the work.Heir for the Throne

While it isn't something I'll probably end up reading, it's definitely neat to see something like this created. Thanks for sharing

I'm an old school book reader. Give me a good novel and I'm happy.

Always fascinating to see what people come up with around wesnoth!
I think adding a link to the novel somewhere in the campaign list/description is worth considering. Perhaps you could file a feature request on https://bugs.wesnoth.org and explain what URL exactly you‘d like to add and where.

I read the last 2 chapters, and it was impressive. I support promoting it in game.

Hi JamesRichey. I started to read your novel and I like it I noticed that Queen Ashevier is renamed to Ashenviere, is that intentional?

If we link to this, note there's some rather graphic depictions of violence in some scenes. We may need to add a disclaimer.

Yeah, I tweaked the name because I kept misspelling it. I meant to change it back and forgot. At least I know people are reading it! I'll have to fix it in the revision.

Is there a fb2 or epub file download, which works directly without registering anywhere?

The source code for the novel is located at: http://www.jamesrichey.com/Wesnoth.html
It should be easy to convert to an epub using either a computer or smartphone. If you have a computer I suggest using LibreOffice Writer to convert it into an epub.
