Thanks for doing this.aquileia wrote:As for what to do next, I'd have a humble reqest - Jetrel posted a ne-run for the lancer, but the cloth wasn't shaded. Would you do that? I attached the extracted frames of his gif for convenience.

I love watching these threads!
A question from non-artist: why don't the characters change/move their feet, shift their weight? That's a very natural thing to do when standing and being bored.
Another idea: the unit could change its posture to a mirrored one, to give one leg some rest.

Re: Standing and idle animations?
This is the thread for making the characters do exactly that! The reason not all of them do it is that someone has to draw a set of images to animate, and we don't have any permanent artists at the moment.singalen wrote:why don't the characters change/move their feet, shift their weight?
Edit: Are you playing with standing and idle animations turned off?

Nope, I play with all of them on. I just didn't formulate it well, sorry.beetlenaut wrote:This is the thread for making the characters do exactly that! The reason not all of them do it is that someone has to draw a set of images to animate, and we don't have any permanent artists at the moment.

The idea is: the unit's standing pose is asymmetrical.
There can be an animation that changes right-sided standing pose to left-sided, where the unit stretches or whatever in between.

Re: Standing and idle animations?
I think it would look like the game was broken if units flipped their facing direction randomly, so there would have to be an animation between the poses like you said. Then, the problem becomes just what I said: Someone has to draw the animation frames.singalen wrote:There can be an animation that changes right-sided standing pose to left-sided, where the unit stretches or whatever in between.
Well, that's the main problem. Another one is that UMC authors would no longer have control over where the unit was facing. What you could do though, is have a long idle animation that changes the direction, then changes it back after 30 or 60 seconds. I don't think there is any limit there. That can already be done, too. No changes to the engine needed.

Re: Standing and idle animations?
While I was working on the attack animation for the HI I thought I would try a standing bob as well. It's not finished but It's a general idea. Thoughts?

Can you post the frames (with shadow, of course) and I'll commit them?

Here it is! The middle two frames are reversed for the downward motion of the bob.

Re: Standing and idle animations?
It would maybe be cool if it would have a trembling kind of movement.

That might be showing off, like a dancer showing that they can pat their head, rub their belly, and wiggle their hips to three different rhythms simultaneously.
Re: Standing and idle animations?

Hello, my first standing animation in a while. Is this any good? If not, can someone tell me what can be improved upon?
