... the structure that allowed the well to be used crumbled, leving nothing other than a deep, dark hole.
(shouldn't be a coma between "dark" and "hole", but imagine one anyways)
At midnight, a strange mist in the sense that it was quite odd for there to be mist at all at this time of the year creeped up from the the hole where the well once visibly was. A slight quake, though enough to wake most, was heard, appearantly causing a burst in the former creeping mist, which now amost raced out from the hole. [Cant' think of a great name for our protagonist] woke up due to the quake and groggily hurried to his window only to see another villager collapse due to the "mist", the light of her torch litting up her lifeless face. [Cant' think of a great name for our protagonist] sarted to panic, knowing his beloved still lay in her bed, as she didn't wake up from the quake. He hurried to her side and tried to wake her up in most ways you could imagine, but to no avail; it was like a nightmare to him but the dread feeling that this was indeed real made him avoid taking any chances. He decided to carry her and got out of his house to see the mist race in all directions, and of course, his. He starts to flee in the other direction with his beloved in his arms while the mist steadily comes closer to him with every step he takes.
As he reaches what to him would be a safe distance from the village he dares look back at it which would now be engulfed in the deadly mist, although there was no village. What he saw was a crater, or rather a lake.
With the sparse light that the coming morning annouced itself with he could see the mist receeding into a hole in the lake where the well probably once was. [Cant' think of a great name for our protagonist] was now beyond despair, he had neither a home nor food nor water or any possessions left. His only comfort was that he had saved his beloved from certain death.
While [Cant' think of a great name for our protagonist] sat there, engulfed in sadness and despair despite the fact that his beloved was safe the earth they stood on started to viciously quake, this time waking [Serioulsy, how bad with names am I?] up. The earth, seemigly alive, shifted and deformed violently, separating [Cant' think of a great name for our protagonist] and ii
(Wait a second... IRIS! yeah! finally some name-progress!). Both are voilently tossed around as the earth furiously quakes.
After some time, the earth settles, leaving a barren, alien land devoid of any life with the exeption of two flickering "flames".
*Ockward gets evil plan for plot *
Iris regains her consciousness and finds herself in an alien land to her. Rocks, boulders, and what to her seemed like rocky horns sticking out of the ground was all she could see. Frightened she tried to call her beloved, but an immense pain in her throat hidered her added to the fact that she had lost her voice. This must be a bad nightmare, she thought, even though the pain she felt all over her body told her otherwise. Not knowing what to do, she started walking in a random direction on what miraculously seemed as a natural path through the quaked area.
After what seemed to Iris as an eternity she took a turn around a humongous boulder to find herself standing in front of a thick, dark forest.
"Odd...", she thought, but then disregarded her doubts.
"This is, after all, a dream. How could anything possibly make sense in a dream?"
She entered the forest, not knowing that the entrance from whence she came sealed itself as she continued into the depths of the forest.
