Art Criticism for new graphics for Sulla

Post by bssarkar »

Hello, need constructive art criticism for the attached unit art, related to (https://github.com/wesnoth/wesnoth/pull/8539). The details could be found there, but I'm also quoting them here :
Sulla's power in Aethermaw seem to be far more than what can be expected of a Wesnothian Great Mage, so updated the lore and gave her a new type which seems more apt.
Also planning to add some new images for the new type, if it is something I can do with my skill level.

Yet another reason would be to let players know that the paths human magi can take are as varied as there are human. Currently the main paths are Red vs White mage (and Silver maybe). But other races show that these are not the only types of magic that exist. (I think at this moment it gives a false impression that Red Magi are the best, and only they can become Great Mages). This can slightly alleviate that. (Compare for example War of Legends' magi, where even dual and multielement magi are possible)

Current choice : Aether Mage
(This is not really another new unit, just a couple of images to make it look a bit better)

Looks quite nice to me, especially the orbiting staff. Might be worth including a GIF of the animation playing in-game on Aethermaw - sometimes things that looks good in stills look weird in-game, or vice versa.

A bit busy now, but will add it once I get a chance. Here's a non in game animation.
Edit : Added. The orbs seem to be suddenly changing direction. I'll check my animation code again.

Remove the images from PR for now, since somebody else is trying to submit images for Human Magi. Let's see what happens, and I might put up another PR depending on that.

It's possible to use more than one recolor in an image, in addition to magenta there's the flag_green and ellipse_red source palettes. That could be used to make the orbiting planets the players' chosen team colors.
