Re: Working on campaign text
Ever thought of doing your own campaign, by the way? I have considered it; I actually have a lot of campaign ideas around. Maybe one of these months... Better? Yep, definitely better. That scorched walls bit is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about for giving your intro a good bit of charac...

Re: Working on campaign text
Okay, your intro has a problem I have noticed is very common in campaign intros: it, like a history textbook, tells of events in a very neutral, bland, and spartan manner. And so too, like a history text, you can expect that it will cause glazed eyes and disinterested skipping shortly after exposure...

Re: Plot design tips
Wesnoth is getting to the point where the writing is the weakest point remaining, in my view. OTOH it's significantly less work to fix compared to the extraordinary amounts of effort that go into unit animations and portraits. So I feel we owe it to the rest of the game to get the writing up to the...

Re: Plot design tips
If you are looking for a set of tips useful for good writing that are readily applicable to Wesnoth, I cannot recommend Watt-Evans' Laws of Fantasy strongly enough.

Re: REQUEST - metal sparkle animation, example included
How's about CC-BY-NC? Enables some level of freedom, without letting people profit off you. I don't think that'd work for the purposes of inclusion in Wesnoth. As far as I know, every one of the 6 main CC licenses is incompatible with the GPL ( the FSF specifically mentions that CC-BY and CC-BY-SA ...

Re: Elven Love
Huh, I have only passing familiarity with WML, but... couldn't you simulate time passing by triggering an event which took time to compute but has no graphical/auditory traces? Otherwise, if nobody can come up with a way to do it, I apologize for suggesting things that aren't implementable. I guess ...

Re: Elven Love
Problem is, I want the images to all be default, and I don't like using narrator to do actions... Custom art is not required in order to do silent theatrics (though it can help sometimes). If you are interested in the concept, I would suggest you look at some 2D RPGs like Earthbound and the GBA Fin...

Re: Noob question.
I don't use it except if the game crashes or something and I want to start where I let off. Otherwise I start the scenario over if I get defeated or lose a loyal character I wanted to keep. It's not hard to ignore this feature.

Re: Defence strategies? (for the AI)
Another thing. If any of the AIs units have the slow ability, they should identify the biggest, baddest nearby enemy unit (the one which can inflict the most damage) which hasn't been slowed yet and slow it down, then repeat the process for any remaining slowers. In offense the appropriate follow up...

Re: Defence strategies? (for the AI)
I think your strategies are good. Here's what I have to add, based on my own experiences: Don't forget the "line units at the edge of terrain which has a higher defense than surrounding terrain" technique (for instance, most units in a mountain/plain, plain/water, or plain/swamp edge would...

Re: Elven Love
Well, couldn't play the scenario, but I read the script. Here's my take. The first line is a little abrupt for the beginning of a scenario. A bit of silent action preceding it could make it work better. The second line is pretty cheesy and artificial. In both real romance and its fictional depiction...

Re: Idea to do the map editor more complete.
Whilst I think its a good idea, I can't stop myself wondering if this would incrase the quantity of campaigns, and perhaps reduce the quality somewhat? It might also do the exact opposite. Some creative and talented writers and potential scenario makers for whom coding is a barrier could be able to...
