Re: Other artists inspirations and References
This site is a company that sells museum replicas and has many references for both armor and clothing. Not just medieval times, either, but stuff from fantasy and movies like Lord of the Rings. Check it out, I think I can promise it'll be worth your while.

Re: Other artists inspirations and References
hi;
new to the forums, & not sure if this would be better here, or in the campaign designer's section, or if there's some central location for "art"; but since this is where i am just now, i thought i'd add a cool image from wikimediacommons.
wish i could say "i'll post a new image every day", but i'm not that regular.
i will try & add occasional new/cool/interesting (free/open-source) images for inspiration and/or direct use.
this one is by albrect duerer, ca 1495-8, & represents an accurate depiction of an light-to-intermediate armed/equipped horseman of that era, in western/central europe (image is public domain & free to use).
anybody here remember the game "darklands"?
p.s.: image size controls/how-to?

Don't link to images like that; make it an attachment instead. Who knows if the other website will stay up?
Also, attachments are automatically resized down to fit.

Re: Other artists inspirations and References
will-do.
is there a way to turn a linked image into an attachment directly? (rather than having to download & then re-upload it)
(also; unless otherwise stated, all images are from http://commons.wikimedia.org ...another project i'm active on; if wikimedia ever shuts down, we're all in trouble! XD)

No, you'll have to do it manually. It's not difficult though:

Re: Other artists inspirations and References
ty for moving the image
i'm surprised there isn't an app for that tho. it would be handy, in general
next image, also by albrecht duerer; jousting helmet, same region, ca 1498-1514
2 views; smaller in colour, larger in b&w
btw: if anyone is looking for anything specific, or on a specific topic, i can be wicked good at finding things... ;P

Re: Other artists inspirations and References
The following sites host sprites extracted/ripped from commercial console videogames.
These are useful as a source of study for how spriting is done, but for obvious reasons, don't try and rip any of these for wesnoth frankensteins - it's illegal, and we've had problems with that before. We can't accept those into the game.

Re: Other artists inspirations and References
ok, new image (sorry it's been so long):
from wikimedia commons, landscape this time; again by Albrecht Dürer, since i'm sorting some of his stuff @ wmc
the harbour @ antwerp, 1520 (public domain);
1st image is much better quality, & could be used directly in a campaign, as appropriate; whole or cropped, as-is or coloured in
2nd image is of same, but shows the top finial of the tower-roof, which is cut off in image 1

Amazing photoshop tutorials. Some are a bit over the top, but others are quite clever and useful.

The sell all kinds of swords and knifes. Most of them and I think all of them are remakes and replicas.

A huge site with lots of reference for swords, knives, armor, helmets, axes, clubs, etc. I've found it very helpful.
