Loyalist Portrait Series

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
I also got the impression that it was a female variation, probably due to the smaller appearance of the head and the more visible outlines/curves on the breastplate.
In fact, I thought that's what Crunchy was referring to by his first comment.

I didn't mean the burly armor was meant to be realistic, just so it'd look less femine. I don't mind how frilly or posh the armor is. I think eliminating certian curves by adding some scale mail will help reduce the female aspect.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
Final lineart for both variants. The illusion of a female variant ought to have dissipated now.
#1 will get a colour scheme with blue dominant, similar to the fencer line
#2 will get the usual red, steel and gold Loyalist colour scheme

Wow, LordBob.
Those are really awesome. I myself like them both as equal, and hope both will be committed. I hope Jetrel and tsi and others think so too?

It goes without saying that LordBob's work will be committed when finished.

Flats for variant #2. I'll do #1 once #2 is over, as there's thanksfully a large amount of work that gets to be re-used.

Why does only the male's horse get the horned head-shield?

Because it's more manly.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
Why not ? This is not a case of male/female variant : I'm just trying to make two knight portraits available for campaign makers to choose. As such, any element that isn't a distinctive feature of the sprite can change provided that the end result still looks good and is consistent with the portrayed unit.DEATH_is_undead wrote:Why does only the male's horse get the horned head-shield?

I love both versions
The ram designs on the first version are awesome - did you make those up?
The coloured version's waist/ribcage ratio seems a bit too extreme to me, wether the waist is a bit too thin or the ribcage is a tad too wide.
(This should also take care of much of the female impression some of the comments reflect - I, for my part, don't have a problem with that at all and quite like gender ambiguous qualities in general.)

Hehe, kinda. I went across plenty of sheep during my holidays, as it happened to be in Scotland. Inspired me, I guesskitty wrote:The ram designs on the first version are awesome - did you make those up?
As for the waist/ribcage ratio, I'm gonna keep it : I like those curves. Besides, if you take a look at this collection and this other one, you'll see some of them have a waist so thin that I've been wondering if there ever was a man who could fit in.

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series
Men were smaller in those days And there are reasons behind the slightly odd acurves they tend to have (more often giving a slightly pot-bellied feel than a slightly bust feel, but still) - the flatter something is, the easier it is to stick a spear or lance through it. The steeper curves made it more likely that weapons thrusting from the front would be deflected rather than penetrate.
