Re: Other artists inspirations and References
Cool concept art for a cool game, has already been a great source of inspiration for myself.
EDIT: link repaired. You'll have to scroll down for the actual concept art.

Re: Other artists inspirations and References
First of all, sorry for the suddenly posting here without warning - I once submitted an accepted patch long ago, but never really followed these forums.
However, I vaguely remember someone (Jetryl?) posting the gallery of an artist who made exceptional use of light. IIRC he made scenes of large gathering of people, eg. balls etc. I'm interesed in finding the name/gallery of this artist. Sorry for being so vague, but I can't really recall many details, although I would recognize his gallery if I saw it. In fact, I can't be completely sure this was where I saw it, but this is my best shot. Appreciate any help.
edit: posted this here because his work was certainly worthy of inspiration. Sorry if it's misplaced.

Was it this: http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm ?
EDIT: even if it's not, that link REALLY should be in this thread - it's a brilliant lesson in many of the basics of good artwork.

I think you might be referring to http://www.goodbrush.com. For some odd reason however, that site just gives me a lot of "Reported Attack Site!" warnings and I can't really access it at all.
The guy's name is Craig Mullins.

Re: Other artists inspirations and References
Looks like they had some sort of crash recently; it's back up now, but almost all the artwork is gone and what is there is all dated 1/31/09, even stuff I know I saw on that site two or three years ago.zookeeper wrote:I think you might be referring to http://www.goodbrush.com. I saved several of his paintings long ago. The best one was the pirate captain.

The people of the near eastern steppes, with lots of shiny scale mail and light armour, as well as many horse archers.

Styles of ornament (Der Ornamentstil) by Alexander Speltz, originally published in 1904 and will probably remain THE book about ornaments for centuries to come.
It has 400 illustrated pages like the one below and if you don't want to get a real one its available from http://www.archive.org/details/stylesof ... 00speluoft (huge PDF though with 684 pages).
