Let me clarify something about the sample requirements...
I don't want you to think that you need EWQL so compose for Wesnoth. In terms of quality, that is the minimum we expect. We just get a lot of submissions that are clearly using outdated samples, and have no place in the Wesnoth music world. My best advice is, before you even begin to compose music for us, convert the .ogg files in the /data/core/music folder to .mp3's and listen to them on your iPod or home speakers, to get an idea of what style we want.
You don't need to spend a ridiculous amount of money to write music for Wesnoth, most of the music I've submitted has been composed using EWQL Silver, so you can squeeze a lot out of that library, but just as long as your clarinets don't sound like your oboes and your bassoons don't sound like your french horns, than you'll probably be ok in submitting music for us.
