A New Order art
Hi there!
I know that everyone is busy here, however maybe there will be some friendly soul who could create a set of animations for the sprites of the Akladian faction? I've added two examples of the sprites (base frames).
All in all, literally hundreds of frames need to be created, but if someone would complete just a set of attack animations or dead animations for at least those two units, I would be happy anyway..
(EDIT: or if someone would be willing to edit them or replace, on condition the results are consistent with the rest of the faction).
EDIT: Two more sprites

Re: Request to Spriters: animations for Akladians...
Does a single post constitute "spamming" the forum ? If so, then I have misunderstood the rules, and I do apologise; Because I have read them and I think I fulfilled every other rule there. The campaign is playable )it is playable since 2005); it is on campaign server for 1.8. I have done a lot of sprites and a lot of animation (150 frames by now);Shinobody wrote:Sure you've read this?
Anyway, as I said, if I did break the rules, sorry to everyone and I ask moderators to remove the thread.

Re: Request to Spriters: animations for Akladians...
There's no problem with this thread.
That said, I think you should rather aim for more mainline-quality base frames than animations for the current ones.

Re: Request to Spriters: animations for Akladians...
Don't worry about it, Shinobody just had a kneejerk reaction. Speaking of which, if you've done a lot of animation you should show some of them off, and maybe tell us a bit more about what your faction is. Two images isn't enough to really tell us anything!szopen wrote:Does a single post constitute "spamming" the forum ? Mainline-quality That's the problem. I am no spriter
But here is an example: the light infantry attack.
And the base frame for it:
The faction are Akladians, featuring in "A New Order". Yeah, the campaign you promised to play, Zookeeper, once aragwaithi will be removed

Re: Request to Spriters: animations for Akladians...
Sure, but the point is that if you're asking for help anyway, then you should rather ask for help on getting new base frames altogether, not on getting animations for base frames which are very, very far from mainline quality. Even good quality frankensteins would be a huge improvement, and unless I'm mistaken, we have quite a few frankensteiners here on the forums (or used to, anyway).szopen wrote:Mainline-quality That's the problem. For example, here's a base frame which I could come up with in 20 minutes (the Khalifate units look like a goldmine for frankenstein material). Naturally this wouldn't count as being complete quite yet and doesn't look exactly like the guy underneath it, but you get the idea. If all you need are these 10 units, then all the more reason to go for decent base frames first.

Re: Request to Spriters: animations for Akladians...
methinks the light infantry could do with some better borders, his clothes seem a little confusing to me.
Guys I never thought I'd come back to this forum after 8 years this is wild
Re: Request to Spriters: animations for Akladians...
I don't want to create a new topic: could this topic be renamed as simply "A New Order art"? I got flu, so I had free time yesterday and this is a result :
The important license information: they are under CC3.0-SA-attribution in addition to being GPLd -- with one important condition stated below:
All the artwork (images and music) which is GPLd for the ANO campaign was done so
under following condition: by "the preferred form of the work for making
modifications to it", i.e. the source code, we understand the work __as it is
shipped with this campaign__.
We grant the GPL use with understanding that it does not require us to provide
sketches, source images or anything else except of what is already
provided with this distribution. If GPL require us to give away also source as
in "all the waveforms used for creating of the song" or "all sketches used to
create an image", then the images and music are not GPLd. If moderators think this condition is incompatible with forum rules, then please a) notify me, I will remove the post b) please provide me sketches of the images distributed with wesnoth.

Re: Request to Spriters: animations for Akladians...
I'm pretty sure source is a requirement of the GPL, so no source, then it's not GPL compatible. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this.
Re: Request to Spriters: animations for Akladians...
You could have edited the first post’s title yourself; anyway, done.szopen wrote:I don't want to create a new topic: could this topic be renamed as simply "A New Order art"?

Re: Request to Spriters: animations for Akladians...
What is a source of an image? Of music? GPL is not license for the art. Anyway, Wesnoth distribution has similar condition, stating that "we consider 'source' as images in the form as shipped to wesnoth" while I am stating "if it is possible to consider 'source' as image in the form as shipped here, then it is GPLd".catwhowalksbyhimself wrote:I'm pretty sure source is a requirement of the GPL, so no source, then it's not GPL compatible. @Shadowmaster Really? Once again I feel dumb. In many forums I participated the thread's title can not be changed by the simple forum members. Thanks a lot.
And here is remainder why I will never be an artist: The generic akladian portrait. Two days of work, starting with foto, and the result still looks like a s*t. It's better than my previous portraits, so I will use it probably anyway. The .xcf file is provided as well as gzipped, in case someone wants to use it In short, it's done like this:
1) I pose to the photo, while my children and wife are laughing their a*ses off
2) I track the photo with my tablet, with resulting black-white sketch as a base for the rest of the process
I forgot to mention that the backgrounds of the previous images are, obviously, also the photo - one from my private collection, the second is a public domain photo found on web. The Akladians are painted using the same process as the portrait here.

It looks very flat, I think you could add a shadow layer that would really help with that.
