Can you guys critique my sprite?

Post by Harion »

Okay so this is my first Frankensteined unit(if that's a word). I know its not perfect but I would like some feedback if you may.Image
I'm not sorry if the image doesn't come up I will change that if thats the case ASAP.

P.S. This is the first day I had GIMP and I learned how to use it today.

Doesn't work. Edit your post, look below the submit button for an "Upload attachment" tab. Upload your image from there.

You need to upload the image to the post, either that or upload it onto an image hosting service and post the link. Addresses from your computer wont show.

Don't worry. Many of us have made the same mistake.

Sorry to double post, but I must say I think my second one is much better. But constructive criticism is always good.

What am I looking at?
It's spelled "definitely", not "definately". "Defiantly" is a different word entirely.

Pretty much the Level one counterpart of the Troll Shaman.

It's a... troll whelp with some primary colours slapped over its fist?

I'm assuming it's meant to be fire, but fire doesn't actually look like that. It's a smooth blend of oranges and whites rather than disparate red and yellow, and it's generally not completely opaque.

Well I Frankensteined the fire on there from a torch of some kind and I was kinda stumped on how to make it not as opaque so I could see the fist. And as I said I'm new to frankensteining as well as GIMP so if the is a tool I should have used for this instead please tell me.
Thanks for the critique.

If you're pasting things in the GIMP, there should be an opacity slider above the layers.

For brush/pencil/etc. it's in the tool properties, below the panel with all the tools.

Also, there are better flames you could grab from mainline. Look at the goblin pillager's torch, or the flame bursts in <Wesnoth's directory>\data\core\images\halo, for instance. It's usually a good idea to poke around in the mainline graphics a bit before you Frankenstein, since they have quite a good selection of weapons and other stuff.

And there's a frankenpack around the site somewhere. Can't remember where though.

Thank you very much Atz for the help with that. And Frgger5 I already have the Frankenstein packs thought they are kinda outdated. Thanks for the help I will work on these sprites more tomorrow.

I think that is much better than my original.

Is it better? What can improve on?

it's interesting, but it's not the colour of fire now, more like dust (though maybe that was your intention)
it would look better having a similar effect on the second hand too
Like cats? I've made a whole faction of them to kick ass with!
