Just a question for fun.
What five units would you pick to make your custom faction? (from mainline only!)

I'd pick...

* Drake Burner (leadership, archer, mage)
* Elvish Archer (archer)
* Necromancer (mage unit)
* Ghost (scout, melee)
* Spearman (main melee, cannon fodder)

JW, you choose good units, but your faction lacks ToD cohesiveness.

That's actually the point. There will be no moment I will have a weakness. Your Chaotic forces will do well at night, but my adepts can tear through them. At day I will have you on the run and you will have no defense.

Knight: slaughtering the ranged units. Speed. I love setting these lose on corpses and adepts. :twisted:

Mage of Light: their is no unit more awesome. Heals, cures, the perfect undead destroyer.

Saurian Soothsayer: a cheaper healer, also has a decent magical attack, and is quite fast. It'll help hold the line at night, being chaotic and all.

Elvish fighter: good cheap unit to spam the enemy, hold the line, and engage in either melee or at range.

Merman hunter: just to give me a water unit for grabbing villages and countering naga and other mermen.

I'm still editing this. Its a work in progress.

And I believe this is my 100th post. Woohoo! :D

Elvish Shamans (They're cute, and their advancements are hot)

yeah. Too bad it's no UMC - then I'd just play Aragwaithi. :mrgreen:

Do we get the advancements, or just the units in we choose? That would really change my picks. Well, I'd just take the level one version of each choice. So my line up would be:

Horseman

Mage

Elvish Fighter

Merman Hunter

What ever the hell the level one of saurian soothsayer is called (I don't play saurians much :oops: ).

Velensk, I like your first two picks, but you got two land scouts with no flyer/water unit there. For my land scout, I chose the footpad because it can block off the enemy's favored terrain and it alleviates the overall undead weakness. For my water/flyer unit, I broke with the chaotic theme because the merman hunter is a great defender as a mixed fighter and I'd primarily be using it to just sit on water villages or block near the frontline.

Your adepts would be able to tear through me at night? If you engage me at night with your adepts, they and any other unit you use will probably die. You may be able to take out a couple grunts, but it wouldn't be worth it.

This could be an interesting competition. ;-) I imagine something like this:


Anyone can nominate 1 faction consisting of 5 mainline units. Units of any level are available; I hope the higher levels are balanced by having greater recruitment costs. The era is uploaded to add-on server as a "Pick Five Era".

Then there is a tournament, where everyone must use their own faction, or era authors can let other players fight for them. The tournament results in a ladder of factions, not players (though the names of players can be mentioned).

All factions except the best 5 are removed. New factions can be nominated. Next round of tournament. Etc. Honorary mentions for factions that survived 3 or more rounds of tournament.


I hope someone will organize this. ;-) Yeah, bringing new ideas is always easier than doing them, but one can hope, right?

Ug....that's just bring back the old teams like:

Elvish Shaman
Ulfserker
+afiegwigwgwg random units (usually adpet + grunt, ghost)
